European Commission cut its forecast for EU sugar production

The European Commission has cut its forecast for sugar production in the European Union in 2018/19 to 20,1 million tonnes from a previous projection of 20,4 million tonnes.

It is reported by Reuters.

«Planting for the 2018/19 sugar marketing year was delayed in many countries due to wet and cold weather in March, — the Commission said in its summer 2018 agricultural outlook report, — While conditions in the following months were more favourable, it is still unclear whether this delay will impact sugar beet yield and sugar content».

The Commission put 2017/18 sugar output at 21,1 million tonnes, marginally up from an estimate of 21,0 million tonnes in its spring outlook report.
