European Union stepping up wheat imports from Kazakhstan


Kazakhstan exported 519.4 KMT of wheat in November 2017, or 25% more than in November 2016 (415.3 KMT). In addition, this is the largest monthly volume of Kazakh wheat exports since 2013 (540.2 KMT of wheat was exported from the country in December 2013), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Kazakh wheat exports almost caught up with last year in the first three months of MY 2017/18. Kazakhstan shipped abroad 1.2 MMT of wheat in September-November 2017 against 1.22 MMT at the same time last season.

As before, the top buyers of wheat from Kazakhstan include its close neighbors Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

The first months of the current season saw a rise in Kazakh wheat exports to the European Union: up 44% at 93.7 KMT. The bulk of these deliveries went to Italy. Spain also joined the ranks of buyers of Kazakh wheat this season.

Azerbaijan and Turkey also boosted wheat imports from Kazakhstan considerably. The pace of Kazakh wheat exports to Turkey is four and a half times faster than last year.
