Flour exports from Kazakhstan hitting a five-year high

In October 2016, Kazakhstan continued exporting flour at the fastest pace in five years. 248.1 KMT of flour was supplied to foreign markets, or 33% more than in October 2015, reports UkrAgroConsult.

For the two months of the season, Kazakh exporters built up flour deliveries by 27% to 425.1 KMT against 335.2 KMT in the same period in MY 2015/16.

Afghanistan is consolidating its position as the top importer of Kazakh flour. In September-October the country imported twice as much Kazakh flour as at the same time in 2015/16 (about 300 KMT against 148 KMT, respectively). Uzbekistan, on the contrary, slashed purchases by almost 30% – to 107.3 KMT. Tajikistan and Turkmenistan also reduced imports to some degree.

However, noteworthy is growth of Kazakh flour shipments to China’s market – to 1.9 KMT against 0.4 KMT in September-October 2015.

As a reminder, UkrAgroConsult forecasts Kazakh flour export potential to increase to another high of 2.6-2.7 MMT in 2016/17.
