12.07.2018

The French Agriculture Ministry said the government will ban the sale of eggs from caged hens by 2020. It is learnt that some French supermarket chains have already taken action and pledged to withdraw eggs from cages from stores.

Monoprix stopped selling caged eggs in 2016, while Carrefour will only sell free-range eggs from 2020. The French poultry sector is the largest in the European Union, and produced 14.3 billion eggs in 2016.
