Fruit imports are increasingly dynamic in Vietnam

Vietnam is known for its fruit and its exports but much less for its growing demand for fruit imports.
GDC, the General Department of Customs, reports that Vietnam imported $ 351 million worth of fruit in the first six months of 2016. That is a 40% increase from 2 years ago. This trend is strengthening with 110 million USD for the month of January 2017, ie + 55% compared to the same month last year.
Vietnamese consumers have at their disposal dozens of types of imported fruit, kiwis and apples (fruits that can not be grown in the country), oranges, pears, grapes and also many tropical fruits. Vietnam produces these tropical fruits but an important supply of dragon fruits from Malaysia or chemiroyas from Taiwan is proposed. At a price 10 to 20 times higher than the price of the local production.
