Grain freight rates increase on main routes

19.07.2016

Grain freight rates strengthened on major routes amid the general bullish tone of the dry bulk market. The largest growth (by USD 1-2/MT) was observed in the Panamax sector (Mediterranean direction), while the Far East direction can be characterized by some weakening of freight rates. Freight brokers estimate transportation of a Panamax-size grain consignment from US Gulf to China through the Panama Canal at USD 27-28/MT, and over the Cape of Good Hope – at USD 25-26/MT.

The cost of soybean transportation from the USA increased slightly compared to the previous week, while freight rates for Brazilian soybeans shipping remained unchanged.
