Grain stocks in Ukraine down 5% year-on-year

According to the State Statistics Committee, cereal and pulse stocks in Ukraine totaled 27.07 MMT as of December 1, 2017, or 4.8% less than on the same date last year (28.43 MMT).

At the same time, wheat stocks were down 4% year-on-year at 9.72 MMT against 10.12 MMT registered as of December 1, 2016. Barley stocks decreased 26.8% from last year to some 1.74 MMT (2.38 MMT was in December 2016).

Corn stocks are also lower than a year ago. They totaled 14.23 MMT as of the reporting date, or 2.5% less than last year (14.59 MMT).

Rye stocks, on the contrary, are up 28.5% year-on-year at 198 KMT.

The fall in grain inventories resulted primarily from some drop in this year’s harvest. In addition, export shipments of barley and wheat were quite active in the first half of the season, but the same cannot be said of corn exports.
