Hot spell helps Britain towards bumper harvest


Britain may be about to leave the European Union but our farmers could soon be riding to the aid of Europe’s wheat producers.

Following a disappointing early summer blighted by lack of sunshine and torrential rains, farmers in the UK are now harvesting a surprisingly good wheat crop with a decent yield and of excellent quality.

In contrast, the French and German grain harvest has been diabolical. Bad weather in late spring and summer affected much of northwestern Europe, with torrential rains, grey skies and fungal diseases leading to miserable yields with poor quality grains.
