Import of cheese to Russia increased by 16%

Russia this year increased the import of cheese by almost 16%, to 25.4 thousand tons

Russia on December 3, imported 25.4 thousand tons of cheese, which is 15.8% more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of agriculture with reference to operational data of the FCS (excluding trade law).

In addition, increased imports and other dairy products. Thus, the exports of butter amounted to 16.7 thousand tons compared to 12.7 million tons in the same period in 2016, the import of dry milk has increased from 38.4 million tons in 2016, to 46.1 thousand tonnes in the current year.

The main suppliers of milk powder were Argentina, Turkey, Uruguay, Switzerland, New Zealand and Iran. The import of these products increases due to increase in the production of similar domestic products.

The Ministry of agriculture reminded that cheese production in Russia for 10 months of this year increased by 4.5% to 385,8 thousand tons of cheese products - by 11.3%, to 152.5 thousand tons, butter - by 6.7%, to 225,5 thousand tonnes, dry milk and cream - by 31%, to 120.5 thousand tons.
