In September 2016 Romanian corn exports were 7.7% lower than last year

In the first month of 2016/17 MY Romania exported 348 KMT of corn, which was 7.7% lower compared to shipments in September 2015/16 (377.1 KMT) due to second low corn crop. Record high corn exports for this month were observed in September 2014/15 – 402 KMT.

It should be noted that in September 2016 the share of exports to non-EU countries have grown to 49% (169.7 KMT) against 33% (123 KMT) in September 2015. The top buyers of September were Egypt (71 KMT against 27.38 KMT in September 2015), Italy (44.4 KMT against 5.01 KMT), Netherlands (28.5 KMT against 144.6 KMT), Germany (27.5 KMT against 3.1 KMT), Lebanon (26 KMT against 20 KMT).

Notable was shipment of 10.4 KMT to such traditional corn exporter as South Africa due to persisting drought and necessity to provide other neighboring African countries. The last time Romania exported considerable volumes in this destination was 2011/12 MY – 141.8 KMT over the whole season.
