India. 8.52 lakh MT of wheat procured, says DC


The wheat procurement season has almost come to an end as officials say all wheat grain that reached the grain markets has been bought by various agencies. Officials say about 8.93 lakh metric tonnes of grains have reached the markets.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kumar Amit on Sunday said, “Almost all wheat grains that reached 105 grain markets have been procured. Till now, we have procured 8.52 lakh metric tonne of wheat and farmers have been paid Rs 1,530 crore.”

He said 96 per cent of wheat grain has been lifted from the markets. Officials had this year expected arrival of about 9.20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in the markets.

Officials said Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited (PUNGRAIN) has procured 1,71,605 metric tonnes of grain, Punjab Markfed has procured 2,07,437 metric tonnes.  

Similarly, PUNPUS has procured 2,16,507 metric tonnes and Warehouse has procured 1,56,799 metric tonnes. At the same time, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited has procured about 63,417 metric tonnes and Food Corporation of India (FCI) has procured 77,373 metric tonnes of wheat. Meanwhile other dealers have bought about 10 metric tonnes of wheat till now.
