India and Turkey absorbed 65% of total Ukrainian pea exports

Ukraine exported 583.52 KMT of peas in the first seven months of the 2017/18 season, or 93% more than at the same time a year ago. In January 2018 Ukrainian pea exports plummeted to 16 KMT because of restrictive import duties on pulses imposed by India.

Traditionally, the top export destination at the time was India, which absorbed 43% of Ukrainian peas (41% in MY 2016/17). Ukraine supplied 248.74 KMT of peas to the Indian market in the first seven months of the current season, i.e. already 49% more than for the entire last season. Turkey still accounts for the second-largest export share – its share reached 22%, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The European Union has also strengthened its demand for the commodity. EU countries imported almost 37 KMT of peas from Ukraine. That is already 70% more than they purchased for the entire last season.
