India continues its reliance on imports to meet Pulses demand

Despite an estimation of record Pulses production this year it is estimated that India has to depend on the imports to meet the domestic demand. The domestic Pulses prices in the country has declined and the domestic Pulses demand is expected to increase due to the low pries of Pulses.

The annual Pulses production is estimated at 22.1 million tons. Last year the domestic consumption was 23 million tons and this year it is expected to exceed 24 million tons.Last year the Pulses production in the country was 17.1 million tons and India had to depend on imports to meet the domestic demand. This year as well it is estimated that the country will have to import about 5 million tons of Pulses to meet the domestic demand.
