India’s beef and buffalo meat output to hit 4.3m tonnes in 2018

Buffalo and beef meat production in India is expected to rise by 1.2% from 4.25 million tonnes in 2017, an MLA International Markets report said. The growth in buffalo meat production is partly being driven by the expansion in the dairy industry.

Considering the Indian government’s push to boost the diary sector, it is indirectly promoting the slaughtering of unproductive animals. The primary markets for export of Indian buffalo meat are Egypt, Malaysia and Vietnam, with growth also being realised in UAE and Saudi Arabia.
