Indonesia bans poultry imports from Malaysia

21.08.2018

Indonesia has banned imports of fresh poultry and unprocessed products shipped after August 9, said the Ministry of Agriculture. This follows an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in East Malaysia. A Malaysian industry player said the ban has actually been in place since an earlier avian influenza outbreak last year. “Basically, we don’t export that much or none at all.

“The ban has not been lifted, so there is no effect at all and this is just a continuation of the ban,” he said, adding that the announcement could be due to unofficial movement of poultry from Sabah, where the more recent outbreak happened.
