Indonesia imported a record volume of Russian wheat


According to preliminary information of market participants, Russia exported roughly 4.2 MMT of wheat in December 2017, or 74% more than in December 2016.

Russia stepped up wheat exports by 36% in the first half of MY 2017/18, when it shipped abroad 21.4 MMT of wheat against 15.7 MMT at the same time a year ago, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Apart from a substantial rise in Russian wheat supplies to the traditional destinations, Russia strengthens its presence in other promising markets this season.

So, Russia exported a record some 1 MMT of wheat to Indonesia at the time against 344 KMT in the full 2016/17 marketing year. In view of growing domestic consumption, Indonesia stepped up wheat purchases from all major suppliers this season: Ukraine, Australia, Canada, and the USA. This concerned Russia, too.

In addition, Russian exporters keep building up wheat shipments to the market of Vietnam. Russia exported some 850 KMT of wheat to Vietnam in the first half of the season against 124 KMT in MY 2016/17.
