Indonesia plans for import of 15k breeding cattle

The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, I Ketut Diarmita revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture plans to import 15,000 breeding cattle next year. Of the number, 3500 heads will be distributed to seven technical breeding implementation units (UPT) under the ministry.

“The rest will be distributed to local technical implementation units (UPTD) under livestock agencies in different regions,” he said at a seminar attended by Asian Agribiz in Jakarta. According to him, the breeding stock will be used to produce good genetic quality cattle as replacement stock in cattle producing regions in the country. “To succeed, I think we need an online-based system to control the progress. We will also prepare good quality and supply of feed. Recommended forage for breeding cattle will be planted,” he added.
