Indonesia should grow more pig, pork exporters

25.09.2017

The Statistic Centre Agency noted that Indonesia exported live pigs worth USD 30.25 million to Singapore in the first half of 2016. Bulan Island-based Indotirta Suaka, a subsidiary of Salim Group, was the only exporter. Sauland Sinaga, Chairman of the Indonesian Monogastric Association, said: “The government has to support other pig and pork producers to be able to export.”

In Solo and Karanganyar of Central Java for instance, there are around 0.8 million pigs reared under the intensive farming model. Prof Sinaga told Asian Agribiz that if guided and provided with good processing facilities, pig farmers in this region could meet export requirements.
