Indonesia’s native chicken production to reach 300m birds

Indonesia’s native chicken production is expected to reach 300 million birds this year, or a 7% increase from last year. Of the figure, Ade Zulkarnain, Chairman of the Indonesian Local Poultry Farmers Association (Himpuli), told Asian Agribiz that 210 million birds will be from backyard farms while the rest are produced by modern farms.

The domestic market is still the main destination for native chickens. However, Mr Zulkarnain said together with the government, the association has tried to tap export markets for commercial native DOC to Malaysia and native chicken meat to Singapore and Timor Leste.
