Iran purchased wheat from Kazakhstan for the first time this season


Wheat exports from Kazakhstan continued slowing down in 2017, UkrAgroConsult notes. 242.5 KMT of wheat was supplied to foreign markets from Kazakhstan in January 2017, or 26% less than in January 2016 (327.7 KMT).

Nonetheless, wheat exports from Kazakhstan totaled 1827.6 KMT for the five months of the 2016/17 season, or up 9% against 1677.4 KMT in September-January 2015/16.

Kazakhstan continues to actively supply its wheat to the EU market this season. In the period under review, Kazakh wheat exports to the EU market almost tripled to 129.4 KMT against 47.7 KMT at the same time last marketing year.

Iran resumed purchases of Kazakh wheat. 3.5 KMT of Kazakh wheat was supplied to this market in January.

Please note that this season’s wheat imports by Iran are estimated at 1 MMT against 3.46 MMT in MY 2015/16. Russia remains the top wheat supplier to the Iranian market. But Russian wheat deliveries in July-January 2016/17 also plummeted four times year-on-year to 250 KMT.
