Iraq still to make a purchase in 50,000 T wheat tender -traders

Iraq's state grains board has not many any purchases yet in a tender to buy at least 50,000 tonnes of hard wheat, which attracted thin participation from exporters, European traders said on Tuesday.

Only four companies participated in the tender, which closed on Feb. 26 while offers remained valid until March 2, they said. Three of the companies were smaller regional trading houses.

In previous wheat tenders by Iraq, 10 or more trading houses participated.

Dissatisfaction with new tender payment and inspection terms meant multinational trading houses were unwilling to participate, traders said.

The wheat in the latest tender can be sourced from the United States, Canada or Australia, but the lowest priced origins offered were for Black Sea region wheat, they said.

Iraq's grains board made no purchase in its previous international tender in February for 50,000 tonnes of wheat which attracted participation from only three trading houses.
