Japan’s Sumitomo to import poultry from Turkey

Sumitomo Corp was to begin importing chicken thigh and breast meat from HasTavuk, a chicken processor from Turkey this month. This makes it the first company to do so after Japan’s Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry approved the import of Turkish chicken in September 2017.

The products are priced 20% lower than domestically produced chicken meat and will be sold to supermarkets in Japan. Sumitomo expects sales of USD 22.9-27.5 million annually in the next few years.
