Jordan increasing imports of Ukrainian barley

Barley exports from Ukraine totaled 4.09 MMT in H1 2016/17, or up 4.4% year-on-year (3.92 MMT was exported in July-December 2015/16), reports UkrAgroConsult.

In the period under review, the top importer – Saudi Arabia – reduced its share in Ukrainian barley exports to 40% from last season’s 53%.

Libya sticks out among key importers of Ukrainian barley this season. In the first half of the season the country already imported 68% more than for the entire last marketing year (750 KMT against 446 KMT in MY 2015/16).

It is also worth pointing out Jordan as an important destination market this season. So, Jordan, which traditionally accounts for the smallest shares of Ukraine’s barley exports – on average up to 100 KMT a season over the recent years, has already entered the top five outlet markets for Ukrainian barley in MY 2016/17, UkrAgroConsult notes. The country imported 225 KMT of barley from Ukraine in the first half of the current season, or two and a half times more than for the entire last season (86 KMT).
