June Chinese DDGS imports rise 19.6% on month, slump 75.46% on year

Chinese imports of dried distillers grains rose 19.6% or 38.58 million kg month on month in June to 235.6 million kg, according to data released by the Chinese Customs Information Center in Hong Kong.

Chinese DDGS imports, however, declined 75.46%, or 724.3 million kg, compared with June 2015, the data show.

All of the imports came from the US.

The US DDGS exports to China in June were worth $47.76 million, according to the customs center. In the first six months of 2016, China has imported 1.54 billion kg of DDGS worth $335.5 million.

In the first six months of 2015, China imported 2.44 billion kg of DDGS worth $733 million.

US DDGS represents 99.97% of all DDGS imports into China so far in 2016. China in recent years has been the largest buyer of US DDGS.

An antidumping investigation into US DDGS by the Chinese government has slowed demand for the product there.

Domestic ethanol producers in China have complained that the US' product has an unfair competitive advantage in the Chinese market.

The Chinese commerce ministry will hold a hearing on August 2 to gather input on the investigation.
