Kazakh barley exports hit a 25-year high


Barley exports from Kazakhstan somewhat slowed down in February 2018. They totaled 170.9 KMT, i.e. 15% less than in January 2018 but 108% more than in February 2017 (82 KMT).

Altogether, Kazakhstan exported a bit more than 925 KMT of barley in September-February 2017/18 that is up 75% year-on-year (527.4 KMT was shipped abroad in MY 2016/17). In addition, this is already 32% more than exported for the entire 2016/17 marketing year, reports UkrAgroConsult.  

Iran is still the largest end market for Kazakh barley – the country absorbed 96% of total exports in the first half of MY 2017/18. Besides, this is already 42% more than for the whole MY 2016/17.

The current season features an expansion of export destinations at the expense of the EU, which absorbed 2% of total barley supplies.
