Kazakh wheat exports to the EU hit a five-year high


Kazakhstan exported 160.1 KMT of wheat in August 2017, or 45% more than at the same time last year (110.5 KMT in August 2016). 

Kazakh wheat exports closed the 2016/17 season up 5.3% at 3.76 MMT against 3.57 MMT in MY 2015/16, reports UkrAgroConsult.

More wheat was shipped from Kazakhstan to almost all of its end markets. Wheat exports to Uzbekistan were 18% higher than for the whole last season. Supplies to Tajikistan exceeded last year’s level by 13%, exports to Afghanistan were up 19% year-on-year.

Shipments to the European Union gained still more than those to the traditional end markets. Kazakhstan exported 281 KMT of wheat to the EU in MY 2016/17 that is the largest volume since the record 2011/12 season and up 70% year-on-year (165.3 KMT was shipped abroad in MY 2015/16). Kazakhstan exported more than 8 MMT of wheat in the 2011/12 season, including 555 KMT supplied to the EU market.

Kazakh wheat was shipped to the Chinese market with some lag. Kazakhstan exported 261.5 KMT of wheat to China in MY 2016/17, or 8% less than a year ago.
