Kazakhstan: 2017/18 grain crop

Planting of spring cereals is over in Kazakhstan. Despite having been exposed to occasional weather adversities, it did end in time. According to current data of Kazakhstan’s Ag Ministry, sown acreage of spring spiked cereals shrank by 2%. As projected, the main reduction took place in wheat.

Taking into account the average trend yield in the last 3-4 years, wheat production in the country may decrease by 9-10% compared to last year.

As for barley, UkrAgroConsult does not expect any substantial expansion of this crop’s plantings this year, despite of measures that are taken under a new state program for saturating the domestic market with national products, increasing the workload of processing facilities and compound feed mills and enhancing feed supplies for the livestock sector.
