Kazakhstan boosted linseed exports to the EU by 21%

Linseed exports from Kazakhstan totaled 41.0 KMT in January 2018, down 18% from the previous month (50.0 KMT) but up 42% from January 2017 (29.0 KMT). Overall, linseed exports in the first five months of MY 2017/18 stay at a record 183.7 KMT, being up 4.8% from a year ago (175.2 KMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

As a reminder, the rise in export shipments naturally resulted from crop acreage diversification that had expanded oil flax plantings by 33.6% in 2017.

Along with the retention of traditional importers and increased supplies to their markets, the overall range of linseed export destinations narrowed appreciably to 17 countries in the first five months of the current season against 30 countries a year ago. As before, the largest destination market is the EU, which absorbed 21% more Kazakh linseed than during the same five months a year ago (67% of total exports). Afghanistan reduced Kazakh linseed imports by 16.4%, though it remains a major buyer absorbing 22% of total exports.
