
Kazakhstan must become a breadbasket of Eurasia

The agricultural sector of Kazakhstan must become a new driver of the economy, said Nursultan Nazarbayev in his address to the people on January 31.
In this connection the following tasks were assigned to the government:
- to revise the principles of subsidy allocations and gradually switch to insuring agricultural produce;
- within five years, to create all the conditions for joining over 500,000 households and small farms into cooperatives;
- to raise the level of produce processing, set up an effective system of storage, transportation and marketing of goods;
- to increase efficiency of land utilization and expand the irrigated land area by 40% to 2 Ml ha within five years;
- to ensure a 40% rise in food exports by 2021 through diversification of agricultural production.
