Kazakhstan. Oilseed plantings for the 2018 harvest expanded by almost 14%


According to the Statistics Committee under the Economy Ministry of Kazakhstan, oilseed plantings for the 2018 harvest in the country expanded by 14% versus 2017, to a record 2.838 Ml ha, report UkrAgroConsult’s analysts.

Oil flax accounts for the largest portion of their total acreage. So, 1.1 Ml ha was seeded to this crop in 2018 against 869.7 Th ha in 2017.

The greatest gain was registered in the planted area of mustard, which increased 3.5 times to a record 78.3 Th ha.

In addition, Kazakh farmers allocated a 47% larger area to rapeseed this year than in 2017 – 374.4 Th ha.

At the same time, the planted areas of sunflower, safflower and soybeans are slightly smaller than last year. So, sunflower was sown on 864.3 Th ha (-4%), safflower on 285 Th ha (-4%), and soybeans on 126 Th ha (-2%).
