Kazakhstan. September 2018/19 wheat exports hit a five-year high


Kazakhstan started the new export season at a rapid pace. So, Kazakh wheat exports in September 2018/19 were up 46.3% year-over-year at 376.8 KMT. In addition, this is the largest volume of September wheat exports since MY 2013/14, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As a reminder, wheat exports from Kazakhstan reached 5.4 MMT in MY 2017/18, i.e. exceeded the 2016/17 level by 43.6% and hit a six-year high.

In MY 2017/18, the biggest importers of Kazakh wheat included Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, the EU, Afghanistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.

At the beginning of the current season, the top buyer of Kazakh wheat is still Uzbekistan. A substantial rise is seen in supplies to Turkmenistan, which imported as much as 55.1 KMT in September 2018/19 against 88.9 KMT in the whole of MY 2017/18.

Also, September 2018/19 witnessed a boost in Kazakh wheat shipments to Azerbaijan and the EU compared to the same month last season (up 168% and 152%, respectively).
