Kazakhstan. Spring grain crops sowing

According to Kazakhstan’s Ag Ministry, spring spiked cereals were sown on an area of 3.95 Mln ha as of May 20, 2017 (27.6% of the plan) that is 5% less than at the same time last year (4.15 Mln ha or 28.3% of the plan).

It is also worth noting that, according to updated information of Kazakhstan’s Ag Ministry, the expected sown area of spring spiked cereals in the country will shrink by 2.3% in 2017 against 2016, to 14,327.6 Th ha, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As of the reporting date, corn plantings already totaled 72.9 Th ha (69.4% of the plan) and rice plantings were at 83.1 Th ha (89.9%).

Air temperature growth in the recent days led to drying and warming of the top soil that enabled a faster pace of spring planting. According to the latest observations, the average soil temperature at the 10-cm depth increased to +13..+15°C.

Such temperatures favor germination and emergence of corn and other heat-loving crops. Early-sown corn has already emerged in the south of the country. Crop development intensified due to the rise in air temperatures.
