Kazakhstan temporarily bans pork import from Omsk region where outbreak of African pig virus was fixed


Kazakhstan has imposed temporary ban on pork import from Omsk region where the cases of African pig disease have been fixed.

"We received an official order of the committee of veterinary control and surveillance on introduction of temporary ban on import of pork, cattle from Omsk region on July 17," said Bazarbay Sapenov, interim chairman of the veterinary department of Pavlodar region.

The virus affects pigs and wild boars. The disease is not dangerous for people. "It causes economic damage, there is no vaccine for the virus," said the department.
