Kazakhstan to keep reducing wheat acreage


Kazakhstan intends to seed roughly 21.8 Ml ha to crops this year, including 11.4 Ml ha to wheat, said the agriculture vice-minister.

According to preliminary information, 2018 plantings will total more than 21.8 Ml ha, i.e. actually as much as last year. It is projected to sow 14.7 Ml ha of cereals, including 11.4 Ml ha of wheat – down another 544 Th ha from 2017. As a reminder, Kazakh farmers sowed 11.98 Ml ha to wheat for the 2017 harvest and 12.44 Ml ha in 2016.

At the same time, according to the agriculture vice-minister, plantings of forage, fodder crops will be expanded by 16% to meet growing needs of the animal sector, reports UkrAgroConsult.
