Kazakhstan tripled pea exports

Kazakhstan exported 125.1 KMT of peas in September-July MY 2016/17, or more than three times as much as for the whole last season (40 KMT was in MY 2015/16), reports UkrAgroConsult.

As before, the key end market for Kazakh peas was Turkey – it even boosted their purchases considerably. Turkey imported 83.6 KMT of peas from Kazakhstan in September-July, or 460% more than in MY 2015/16. Thus, Turkey’s export share expanded to 67% from last season’s 45%.

The second largest importer, Afghanistan, also increased purchases: it bought 22.3 KMT, or three times more than last season. Kazakhstan expanded exports to all the key destinations.

This rise in export shipments results from growth of pea production in the country. In addition, Kazakhstan increased pulse plantings for this year’s harvest by 17%.
