Malaysia. Agri Ministry targets 5% contribution to GDP by 2025

The Malaysian Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry hopes to contribute 5% to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) via the agro-food sector by 2025.
Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the sector's contribution to the GDP stood at 3.3% or USD 8 billion last year, a small figure which he attributes to the country’s dependency on imports such as livestock feed maize, instead of expanding the exports of highly profitable products.
