Moldova. Fair conditions for survival of winter crops


Warmer-than-usual weather with precipitation was observed in the country on December 11-17.

The average weekly air temperature was +2..+5ºС, or 4-5ºС above normal. Air temperatures peaked at +15ºС that occurs on average once in ten years this time. The lowest registered air temperature was -7ºC.

Over the week, precipitation occurred in the form of rain, though it sleeted and snowed towards the weekend. Most of the country received 1-5 mm of precipitation (10-70% of normal) during the week, locally 6-12 mm (80-140% of normal) in the south.

Snow cover was seen on some days of the week. Its height at weather stations varied from 1 to 12 cm, locally at most 0.5 cm in southernmost areas, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Winter crops were dormant for most of the time – their slow daytime growth was only reported on some days.
