Moldova. Farmers sowed sunflower


Warmer-than-usual weather with abundant precipitation was observed in the country. The average weekly air temperature was 1-3°C above normal at +9..+11°C. Air temperatures peaked at +24°C across Moldova. In some areas, frosts with temperatures down to -1..-5°C occurred on the ground and at 2-cm height above it during the week.

Over the week, 75% of the country received mostly 28-45 mm of precipitation (75-100% of normal monthly rate), 50-63 mm in some areas (130-150% of normal monthly rate). In the rest of Moldova, precipitation rate totaled 14-25 mm (165-300% of weekly normal). Heavy downpours of April 7-8 caused damages to the country’s economy.

For most of the week, the weather conditions were fair for growth and development of winter crops. The latter continued tillering over the time, while spring barley was at the emergence and three-leaf stages, reports UkrAgroConsult.
