Moldova. Rains replenished soil moisture content and improved conditions of planting

Colder-than-usual air temperatures and precipitation were registered between October 2-8. The average weekly air temperature was +10..+12°С, or 0.5-2°С below normal.

Air temperatures peaked at +23°С. Air frost events of down to -1..-2°С locally occurred on October 2 and 3. Frost events of down to -1..-4°С were registered at a 2-cm height above the ground surface and on the surface itself.

In most of the country, primarily in its southern half, weekly precipitation rates totaled 28-72 mm (100-250% of monthly normal), locally 11-25 mm (145-350% of weekly normal).

Rains that fell late in the week replenished soil moisture content and improved the conditions for planting winter crops. Moldovan farmers have actually completed the harvest of spring crops, reports UkrAgroConsult. Air and ground-surface frost events posed a threat of damage to the unharvested crop.
