Moldova. Winter crops were largely dormant last week


Mostly warmer-than-usual weather with abundant precipitation dominated the country on March 12-18. On March 18, the average daily air temperature plummeted by 11-14ºС to -2..-8ºС – this was basically 5-9ºС below normal.

The average weekly air temperature was +3.5.. +7ºС, i.e. 3.0-4.5ºС above normal.

Air temperatures peaked at +18ºС and bottomed out at -9ºС.

Over the week, precipitation occurred in the form of rain, sleet and snow. Its total weekly rate was mostly 30-50 mm in 90% of Moldova (100-160% of monthly normal), locally 55-75 mm (2-2.5 times the normal monthly rate).

Snow cover was established by the weekend. Its height equaled mostly 10-20 cm in the northern half of the country and 3-8 cm in its southern half.

The soil was thawed in Moldova on most days of the week. Winter crops were largely dormant over the week. The lowest soil temperature at the tillering node depth of winter crops (3 cm) reached +1..+3ºС that is above its critical level of -15ºС, reports UkrAgroConsult.
