Nepal expects higher corn output

Nepal’s corn output is expected to hit an all-time high of 2.55 million tonnes this year with growers embracing commercial farming techniques to fulfil swelling demand from the feed industry. The Ministry of Agricultural Development said the projected production is 9.37% higher than last year’s harvest.

Ministry officials said that the planting season was favourable and the supply of inputs like chemical fertilizers was normal during the growing period which helped boost productivity. Meanwhile, corn yields are expected to increase to a record 2.67 tonnes/ha, up 6% from last year. The area under corn cultivation grew 3.2% to 954,158ha.
