New season’s potential of the Russian rapeseed market higher than in 2016/17

Russian rape plantings for the 2017 harvest were expanded to 1022 Th ha. This oilseed’s yields are good at the initial phase of harvesting (2.1 MT/ha as of September 1, 2017 against 1.39 MT/ha a year ago).

UkrAgroConsult expects Russia to harvest the largest rapeseed crop in three years.

The rapeseed crop increase expected in the new 2017/18 season will enable crushers to step up oilseed crushing and build up rape oil production.

The foreign trade will most likely feature the following trends:

- rapeseed exports will sink due to expanded domestic crushing;

- rapeseed meal exports will drop due to increased domestic consumption;

- owing to steady international demand for rapeseed oil along with low domestic use, rapeseed oil exports.
