NFA says there's enough rice in Marawi City

The National Food Authority (NFA) said Thursday there was enough rice in Marawi City, where troops are battling Maute extremists.

The NFA is also ready to supply the staple grain to relief agencies, according to its administrator, Jason Aquino.

As of May 24, NFA in Marawi City had 38,000 bags of rice, enough to feed the whole province of Lanao del Sur for five days, said NFA spokeswoman Cynthia Suarez.

Combined with commercial rice supply, the stocks can feed the whole province for 15 days.

NFA rice stocks for the whole of Mindanao currently stands at 1,504,190 bags.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared martial law in Mindanao due to the fighting in Marawi.
