Over 12mln tons of grain harvested in Kazakhstan


 Kazakhstan harvested 12.7 million tons of grain as of September 20, Kazinform reported.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, as of the reporting date, agricultural producers harvested yield from about 10 million hectares, or 66.6 percent of the total harvesting area in ​​the regions. The average yield was 12.7 centners per hectare.

In 2017, 13.5 million hectares, or 88.4 percent of the total harvesting area was covered by this time. Last year, about 17.6 million tons of grain was harvested and the average yield was 13 centners per hectare.

According to the data of the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan, in 2018, the area sown with agricultural crops amounted to 22.0 million hectares, which is 0.83 percent more than in 2017 (21.84 million hectares).

Of the total area under crops, 15.1 million hectares (68.8 percent) were sown with cereal and legume crops. Last year, this figure amounted to 15.3 million hectares.

The main part of the areas under cereal and legume crops falls to the share of Akmola region 4.3 million hectares (28.5 percent), Kostanay region 4.1 million hectares (26.8 percent), North Kazakhstan region-2.8 million hectares (18.5 percent).

The forecast of grain consumption in Kazakhstan for the coming season is 9.9 million tons. This year, the volume of use is estimated at 0.4 million tons higher.

Products of Kazakhstan agricultural producers are exported mainly to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran. As of July 20, Kazakhstan has shipped 4.2 million tons of grain for export, which is 1.6 times higher than the same indicator in 2017.
