Pakistan. Interest-free loans to farmers to boost agriculture

Punjab government has evolved a plan for the promotion of agriculture and to address the financial constrains of farmers' community across the Province. Sources in agriculture department told Business Recorder on Wednesday here that Punjab government will provide interest-free loans amounting to Rs 80 billion to the farmers in the Punjab.

In Sialkot, the process of Registration of farmers had been initiated at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsil headquarters of the district. Under the plan farmers having 12.50 acres of land will be given interest free loan while farmers having five acres of land would also be given interest free loan on top priority basis in Punjab.

Under the programme loan amounting Rs 25,000 per acre for Rabi crop and Rs 40,000 per acre for Kharif crop season in the Province. In addition, the government under the plan will also provide smart-phones on inexpensive price enabling the farmers to get weather information, technical assistance, market rates and the details of fertilisers and seed sellers easily.

Besides, the facility of insurance of crops would also be provide to the farmers while the technical assistance would also be provided to the farmers at each tehsil headquarter of the Punjab sources added. According to available information, there are 1.25 lakh farmers in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district.
