
Philippine chicken production up on commercial farms expansion

Philippine chicken output went up by 4.93% in the first quarter of 2018 on expanding broiler commercial farms, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). In its quarterly report, the PSA said chicken production rose to 439,956 tonnes from 419,303 tonnes a year ago on increased flock inventory and improved egg-laying ratio by commercial farms in most regions.
Top chicken producers in the period were Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon) and 10 (Northern Mindanao), accounting for 63.7% of the total. Region III alone produced an estimated 162,321 tonnes.
