Philippine imports of US meat up 10%


The Philippines has purchased 295.518 million lbs of meat products from the US from January to October, 10.29 % higher than last year’s 267.937 million lbs. Data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA showed that the bulk of US meat products bought during the 10-month period were broiler meat which totaled 192.84 lbs, 8.35% higher than the same period in 2016.

The USDA report also showed Philippine pork imports during the period reached 75.3 million lbs, 15.86 % higher than last year. USDA officials say the spike in imports was due to increased demand during the Christmas season.
