Philippine meat importers approve lower tariff on meat imports

12.04.2018

Washington has recommended that Manila retain lower duties on certain farm products like imported meat. Meat Importers and Traders Association (MITA) President Jess Cham supports this call as he believes this will benefit the buying public, particularly the lower income earners who are major purchasers of processed meat.

“It will be good for meat processors and consumers. Philippine tariffs are exceptionally high and contrary to WTO principles and should have been lowered over the years,” Mr Cham told Asian Agribiz.
