Philippine pork output to increase by 3.15% in 2018

The increasing purchasing power of the Filipinos may hike production of pork to 1.635 million tonnes in 2018, 3.15% higher than the projected output of 1.585 million tonnes this year. According to the USDA, local pork demand in 2018 is forecasted to grow by 4.63% to 1.919 million tonnes.

The USDA also said imports would fill the gap in local pork supply next year where it is expected to increase by 14% to 285,000 tonnes from the projected 250,000 tonnes this year.  The value of the local hog sector’s production at current prices rose by 12.09 % to USD2.20 billion in the first half of the year due to the increase in farm-gate price, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
