Philippine poultry prices recover

The poultry sector is close to full recovery from bird flu as farmgate prices have stabilised. According to the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG), farmgate prices are now at USD 1.36 -1.75/kg, up from USD0.19-0.29/kg in August. But the affected areas of San Luis, Pampanga and the towns of San Isidro and Jaen in Nueva Ecija are yet to recover, according to the group.

SINAG said there is enough supply of chicken and chicken products for the coming holiday season despite the bird flu outbreak. Latest data showed the volume of chicken production stood at 862,000 tonnes, which was up 5%, during the first half of the year.
